Email Tips

Organize your email with message rules

One of the easiest ways to increase productivity is to use email filters (called "Message Rules" in MS Mail, Outlook, and Outlook Express). Filters allow you to sort incoming email into sub-folders, allowing your inbox to remain nice and tidy.

One of our favorite filters is to sort suspected spam into a folder to be reviewed later.  We've created a video tutorial to show you how this is done in MS Mail (the procedure is similar in Outlook and Outlook Express).

If you are receiving a flood of email with the statement of  *****POSSIBLE SPAM***** preceding the subject, that is actually a good thing!  It means Hurtdidit's MailScanner antispam solution is doing its job.

    Read on to learn more...
If you have an email account hosted with Hurtdidit, you automatically receive a set of anti-spam and anti-virus tools to protect your messages.  Learn more about MailScanner with this brief article.
Using Mac OS X Mail?  Here are some step-by-step instructions on configuring your email account.

If you experience an error message "You have exceeded the number of connections..." when attempting to check your email, the solution is easy.  Read on to learn how!

This new vidtut (Video Tutorial) will walk you through the process of configuring your email account in Windows Mail, Outlook, or Outlook Express.
These are brief instructions on how to set up your email account in Outlook Express.  The instructions will apply similarly to most other email programs, however.

    Basic Spam Prevention Tips

Unsolicited Commerical Email (UCE), more commonly known as spam, is an evil that almost every website owner has become grudgingly accustomed to dealing with.

As with poison ivy or girl cooties, the best cure for UCE is prevention. Sadly, once your email address has been added to spammers' databases, there is no removing it. A lot has been written on this subject,so rather than regurgitate it all, we will focus on email links on your website and what you can do to protect them.

You open up your email program to find 100 or more messages downloading. Turns out, most of them are undeliverable bounce-backs.  The problem?  You never sent these messages in the first place!  So is your computer infected with some new, malicious virus?  Maybe it's been struck with a voodoo curse?
